NSW:Bashed policewoman given hero medal

A Sydney policewoman, who was hit in the head repeatedly with a brick but returned
to work after nearly two years of treatment an rehabilitation has received a medal for
heroism.

Sergeant SAMANTHA BARLOW was awarded a medal for heroism today at a Pride of Australia
ceremony at Government House in Sydney.

It came a week after she was given the Hellweg Bravery Award at the Australasian Council
of Women in Policing Conference in Hobart.

She was on her way to work in Kings Cross, in the early hours of May 13 in 2009, when
a heroin addict attacked her.

The mother of two sustained a shattered skull and spent 22 months undergoing extensive
rehabilitation.

Against the odds, she returned to work in March this year.
