NSW: Iemma rules out changing NSW abortion laws
NSW Premier MORRIS IEMMA has ruled out changing the state's abortion laws in response
to the conviction of a Sydney abortion doctor.
Dr SUMAN SOOD has been convicted of unlawfully giving abortion drugs to a young woman
in 2002 .. but has been acquitted of the manslaughter of the woman's premature baby.
Medical groups have called for the state's abortion laws to be clarified to prevent
doctors from being convicted.
But Mr IEMMA says current laws permit safe and legal abortions .. and provide appropriate
protection.
